Scott Pilgrim is a bassist in a rock band, Sex Bob-Omb. He is dating a Chinese high-school girl, Knives Chau. Despite being disapproved by his sister and band-mates, he still goes out with his underage girlfriend and even brings her to practice room.

A mysterious girl, Ramona Flowers appears in Scott's dream. Her unique aura and unpredictable moves arouse his curiosity to find out her identity. His attitude towards Knives slowly becomes cold as he thinks about Ramona all day. He finally gets to talk to Ramona and ask her out on a date. He then falls for Ramona and cheats on Knives.
Scott is attacked by Ramona's ex-boyfriend, Matthew Patel when he is performing in a battle together with his band-mates. He then finds out about the League of Evil Exes and has to defeat the rests of Ramona's evil exes in order to date her.

Scott's best friend, Wallace Wells tells him to break up with Knives if he wants to date Ramona. He breaks up with Knives on her birthday and immediately introduces Ramona to his band-mates as his new-new girlfriend.

Scott continues to defeat Ramona's exes one-by-one from actor Lucas Lee, vegan Todd Ingram, lesbian Roxy Ritcher, and the Katayanagi twins. But Ramona breaks up with Scott and get back to Gideon a.k.a G-Mans Graves which happens to be sponsor of a battle event.

Scott fights Gideon over Ramona but Gideon kills him. Scott manages to restore his life and defeats Gideon in the end. Knives decides to let go of Scott so he can finally gets to be with Ramona, the girl of his dream.

Without knowing the film's genre, it was a really strange film to watch in the beginning. It's difficult to figure out what's happening as the flow tends to jump all over the place. The unusual plots, narratives and title insertions distinguished it from 'normal movie' as logic didn't seem to apply in this film.
Initially, the film was also mistaken as a surrealism film due to the constant false-awakening scenes where Scott failed to wake up from his dream every time. After watching it for awhile, I soon learned about the nature of the film and started watching it as real-life cartoons. That's where everything suddenly makes sense in the film and I was able to enjoy the film better.

I liked the film after watching it for second time. Each character in the film is established well as we're able to see their characteristics clearly as the story goes on.
Scott's slacking and passive attitude is unfavorable when it comes to problem solving and decision making. There is always someone who will have to tell him what he should do before he takes action.
Ramona's cool side actually protects herself from getting hurt. Scott's exes, Knives is a very competitive girl while Envy is actually fragile from the inside despite her cool look.

Besides, I liked how well the editing and transitions were done in the film, together with the CG effects and background musics as they go really well with the pace and mood of the entire film. The titles which indicate sound effects visually such as 'Kpow', 'Click', or 'Thonk' add funny elements to the scenes and make it more entertaining. The script is also filled with humors where the dialogues get unexpectedly funny especially scenes with Scott's gay friend, Wallace in it.
